Sources & Methodology
01Data sources
Deals are discovered through a compliant web search service that indexes official VC websites, portfolio announcements, company press releases, newswires (PR Newswire, Business Wire, GlobeNewswire), regulatory filings and established financial media. Only pages returned by the search service are processed; the platform does not scrape sites that disallow access.
02Extraction
An AI model reads each source document and extracts only facts explicitly stated in it: company, round, amount, date, investors and founders. Every cited URL must match a document actually retrieved — fabricated or altered links are discarded automatically. Missing fields are stored as empty and shown as "Not Disclosed".
03Verification criteria
Verified: at least one primary source (the company's own website, a tracked VC firm's website, an official newswire release or a regulatory filing) confirms the round, with round type and amount stated. Partially verified: a primary source exists but key financial details are undisclosed or conflicting. Awaiting confirmation: only secondary media coverage was found — such deals appear only in the Unverified / Pending Review section and are excluded from metrics.
04Update frequency
The pipeline checks tracked firms on a rolling schedule so that every firm is re-checked roughly every six hours, subject to source availability. Administrators can trigger additional checks. The last successful update time is shown in the sidebar and on every firm page.
05Undisclosed amounts
Round size always refers to the total raised from all investors in the round. A participating firm's individual contribution is shown only when publicly disclosed — it is never assumed to equal the round size. Firm-level "associated round funding" sums the rounds a firm joined and is not that firm's invested capital.
06Duplicates
Each round is keyed by company and round type. When multiple sources report the same round, sources and investors are merged into one record and the round is counted once in all metrics, even when several tracked firms participated.
07Accelerator investments
Y Combinator batch participation is labelled as an accelerator investment and distinguished from priced venture rounds in which YC may later participate.
08Conflicting reports
When sources disagree on amount by more than 10%, the discrepancy is flagged on the deal page, the deal is downgraded to partially verified, and it is queued for administrator review rather than silently resolved.
09Coverage limitations
Coverage is limited to publicly announced deals that the search service can find. Undisclosed, stealth and many small seed investments will be missing. The platform does not claim complete coverage of any firm's activity, and backfill of the past 12 months is progressive — see per-firm "last checked" status.
